WHAT YOU CAN COUNT ON WHEN YOU ELECT JENNIE DOKE-KERNS TO WDM CITY COUNCIL WARD 1
Jennie will be a staunch advocate for an inclusive and welcoming West Des Moines that attracts new residents while thoughtfully preserving our history and the many things that make our city unique. She will work tirelessly to represent the interests of Ward 1 and all West Des Moines residents.

Ward 1 deserves to be represented by an individual who can bring stakeholders together for the betterment of our community. Jennie Doke-Kerns pledges to work hard to grow and foster much-needed relationships between the City Council, the City Manager’s Office, the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, and our fantastic West Des Moines schools. Ward 1 needs a council member that understands that our city will be stronger when we work together toward our common goals.
Finally, and most important of all, Jennie pledges to show up and represent everyone. She wants Ward 1 to know who their city council person is, and feel confident that she is working for them.
Issues That Matter to West Des Moines

Strong Public Schools.
Strong public schools are foundational for strong communities. We need city leadership that partners with our schools and is responsive to the needs of Iowa students. As a teacher and professor, I have watched hundreds of Iowa students develop and I'm so proud to see their contributions in our communities today. Ensuring our kids get the very best is an evolving investment. As our students secure bright futures, our communities are strengthened by strong leaders and a skilled workforce.
Affordable Housing.
Iowans know housing costs are impacting so much more than monthly bills. We should be able to spend our hard-earned wages on what matters most to us and our families. But high housing costs limit where our wages go. We can't keep up with rising costs, so let's do something about it. West Des Moines residents deserve solutions that invest in their pocketbooks while growing West Des Moines.

Historic Growth.
Like many others in West Des Moines, I am proud of our historic spaces and all they have helped us achieve. We honor our community's rich history each day in our work and by supporting local businesses. To grow our futures, we must preserve our past. That's why I am committed to preserving our historic spaces while effectively bringing them into the future.
Leadership for All.
Building trust requires transparency, accountability, and consistent action. In our schools, at city hall and neighborhood associations, West Des Moines doesn’t just welcome people—it empowers them to thrive. On City Council for Ward 1, I will work to foster a safe, inclusive West Des Moines where all are welcome.
